Meet Our Executive Board!
Melissa Gevaert (she/they)
Co-Executive Director
I got involved with the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition to help build community and local support. It can be so hard to find community in areas with no physical LGBTQ+ space. I value the work this coalition does to make the Cedar Valley more affirming so queer individuals feel safe and welcome here.
Emmett Cory (he/him, they/them)
Co-Executive Director
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I have such a love and appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community here in the Cedar Valley. I find so much value in the fostering of a strong social community that can come together not only to support one another through the tough times but also to celebrate the moments of joy.
Jen Christiason (she/her/hers)
Events/Internal Communications
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I feel very guided by the quote, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.” I care! I am a nurse at the UnityPoint Health LGBTQ Clinic & a Mama Bear. This beautiful Coalition is all about being intentional; creating spaces for FUN; and connecting folks in this vibrant community if they desire connection.
Nic Trip (she/her, they/them)
Events/Internal Communications
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I follow the motto: “Be who you needed when you were younger,” and this Coalition is doing the work that I once needed and still need today. I also just love getting to plan and attend so many queer centered activities that showcase queer joy!
Jenna Cuddeback Coulter (she/her)
Finance
I originally got involved with the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition to show my son that there are families like ours out there. I also wanted to build connections with others in the queer community. I feel the coalition is so valuable in allowing us to create a safe space in the Cedar Valley.
Cori Martin (she/her)
Finance
I found out about the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition when they co-hosted an event with the Out & Ally Network at UNI (which is no longer active). I wanted our son to meet other families like his & make friends with other children in the community.
Archer Trip (he/they)
Outreach & Advocacy
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I believe that we as a community can always thrive more when we network and support one another. I also believe that seeing queer joy can be a life-saving tool for LGBTQ+ folks around us.
Sam Zimmerman (they/them)
Marketing
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I wanted to build meaningful relationships and show local residents that queer people are here and thriving as integral members of our community. Visibility is such an important thing to be able to look around and see other people like us!
Sam Blatt (she/her, they/them)
At Large
I got involved in the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition because I want to help positively impact LGBTQ+ folks lives. I want to pour into our communities with opportunities I wasn’t provided or expand on the ones I was, so we can all have more support and resources. I came from a small town where I was repressed for my whole childhood, I was able to come to UNI in 2014 and get very involved with LGBTQ+ rights, advocacy and education. From there I worked in the political sphere to do more politics based advocacy and community building. I was fortunate enough to be involved with The CV LBGTQ+ Coalition from its establishment, serving as a treasurer to co-director, to the at large role I’m currently in. I just want to make a positive impact for our community and the youth in our community.
