Safe Zone Training
What is Safe Zone Training?
Safe Zone Training is split into two parts. The first session covers definitions and terms within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as an introduction to topics and discussions within the queer community that allies would find helpful to be more aware about. The second session focuses more on allyship and discussion within the group about the intricacies of these identities. This session also strives to be a toolbox on how to begin to appropriately give support to any LGBTQ+ person.
One of our goals as a coalition is to become the "local go-to organization for education in the community”. These trainings are the primary source of our outreach to other organizations, businesses, and community members to learn more about LGBTQIA+ topics and identities. We hope that "through knowledge and open dialogue we can replace stereotypes and dismantle stigma, creating safe spaces where everyone belongs".
Session Details
Each training takes about 60–90 minutes depending on the group and our discussions. There will be three sets of training during the 2024-2025 academic year, paired with both part one and part two to follow during each scheduled day. Attendees are more than welcome to mix and match with times or sessions that work best for them, preferably going through part one before attending a part two session. If you cannot make it to these sessions, please feel free to reach out to archer@cvlgbtqcoalition.org to request personal training for your organization.
